Unpredictable Friday
The variable weather and showers of rain they were unfortunately the central element of Friday in Montreal. The FP1 and FP2 sessions thus turned into sessions with difficult interpretation and results that were anything but clear and explanatory of the cars’ performance. The most obvious case was that of Lando Norris, first in the morning shift and last in the afternoon one. At McLaren neither he nor Oscar Piastri were able to fully understand the real competitiveness of the MCL38 on the Canadian track.
The words of Norris and Piastri
“The day was made difficult by the weather conditions, which did not allow me to do as many laps in the dry as I would have liked. – commented Lando Norris – we completed a good number of laps in the wet and made a reasonable first step this weekend, but It’s hard to understand where we are at. It was a difficult Friday for everyone and the conditions here can revolutionize everything. Now we will work hard overnight with the data we have and see where we can aim for qualifying“.
Almost similar opinion to that expressed by Oscar Piastriwho came sixth in FP1 and only 16th in FP2: “The day was complicated due to the weather, so it’s difficult to understand where we are. I think our position is good, but it’s difficult to be sure given that we weren’t able to lap as we would have liked. However, this applies to everyone. Our pace and times on the intermediate tires in FP2 looked solidso that’s positive, but I think it’s going to be an uncertain weekend for everyone“, concluded the Australian.
