The Hague. On Tuesday, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a suspended prison sentence of six months on appeal against Richard de Mos, leader of the local political party Hart voor Den Haag in The Hague. In addition, the Public Prosecution Service wants the judge to impose a fine of 10,000 euros on De Mos, a community service order and a ban of four years from holding positions in public administration.
According to Advocate General Koos Plooij, there is sufficient evidence in the criminal file for bribery and violation of official secrecy during the time when he was an alderman in the Municipal Executive in The Hague.
Last April, the court in Rotterdam acquitted De Mos, ex-councilor and party member Rachid Guernaoui and five other suspects (entrepreneurs) in this criminal case. The Public Prosecution Service had then demanded 22 months of unconditional imprisonment against De Mos. Suspended sentences and fines have now again been demanded against those co-suspects. As far as the Public Prosecution Service is concerned, Guernaoui is not allowed to hold an administrative office for three years.

Frustration
To the annoyance of De Mos, who could not suppress his irritation during a break: “We are being dealt a suggestive, criminalizing and crazy indictment,” he posted on X. “The Public Prosecution Service has learned nothing at all from the gigantic slap at the finger of three independent judges. The corruption glasses are back on.”
The case against De Mos has been going on since 2019. The reason was a completely different criminal investigation into corrupt practices with permits. De Mos and Guernaoui were later also included in that investigation.
This led to arrests and raids on the offices of the two councilors at city hall in The Hague in October 2019.
