The provisional map of the areas devastated by DANA: at least 77,000 homes affected by floods

This information is a provisional estimate based on the first available Copernicus data.

More than 200 people have died in the devastating floods that occurred these days in Spain, which have especially affected the Valencian Community. The storm has left historical records of rainfall and the floods have left images of floods of mud and sediment along the entire Valencian coast.

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) has published a first estimate of the areas affected by flooding during DANA in the province of Valencia. According to an analysis by elDiario.es of that first estimate of the area devastated by DANA crossed with the cadastral information of hundreds of thousands of buildings, at least 77,000 homes have been affected by the floods.

The following map prepared by elDiario.es allows us to locate where the buildings affected by DANA are according to the first calculations of the Copernicus system from satellite images, which until noon on November 2 only include those produced in the province of Valencia.

The data on the map above are the provisional figures estimated by the Copernicus Emergency Management System. It must be taken into account that these are provisional figures since they only take into account the areas identified as flooded or with remains of having been flooded based on satellite images. That is to say, their analysis may have left out areas that are not very visible or not analyzed by the European emergency agency.

According to the first estimates from Copernicus, at least 190,000 people have been affected by the floods that have affected an area of more than 50,000 hectares throughout the province.

In which municipalities are the most affected civil areas? The provisional calculations made by elDiario.es based on the areas identified by the Copernicus system and the information from hundreds of thousands of buildings indicate that in Xirivella and Paiporta there are more than 10,000 homes affected and in many municipalities such as Picanya, l’Alcúdia or Beniparrell more than 90% of the homes are in areas affected by floods.

In the following table you can see how many homes have been affected by DANA since the beginning.
