For its part, IPYS launched an alert on social networks and protested in a statement “against these measures adopted by Presidency personnel that restrict access to information and prevent the complete work of the press.
Following this complaint from the media, Boluarte surprised a small group of reporters who were outside the Government Palace in Lima by approaching to “greet” them, as he said.
The president assured that her government “respects freedom of expression” and addressed reporters to assure them that the Government Palace “is her home.”
Before leaving without accepting questions, he added that he had just learned about the incident with journalists and remarked that the Minister of Defense was already “taking appropriate actions.”
The Ministry of Defense maintained, in this sense, that the reporters were placed in a room at the COEN to avoid “keeping them outdoors,” although it added that, given the discomfort that this decision has generated, it will apply the “corresponding corrective measures.” without specifying what they will consist of.
