The Pope has expelled three other members of the Sodalitium of Christian Life, José Andrés Ambrozic, former assistant of Temporalities, Communications and Apostolate and former vicar general, Ricardo Adolfo Trenemann and Luis Antonio Ferroggiaro, as announced in a press release by the Apostolic Nunciature in Peru .
According to what they indicate, this decision comes after the Pontiff has assessed the defenses corresponding to the complaints that emerged during the “special mission” entrusted to the archbishop of Malta and assistant secretary of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Charles Scicluna, and the official of said dicastery, Jordi Bertomeu.
“To adopt such a decision, the scandal due to the number and severity of the abuses reported by the victims has been considered, particularly contrary to the balanced and liberating experience of the evangelical counsels in the context of the ecclesial apostolate,” details the statement.
This expulsion is the response after having discovered “cases of abuse of position and authority, particularly in the form of abuse in the administration of ecclesiastical property, as well as sexual abuse even of minors.”
In the statement, the bishops of Peru, together with those of those places where the Sodalitium of Christian Life and the Pope are present, have stated that they are “saddened by what happened.” Furthermore, they have asked for forgiveness and have joined in the suffering of all the victims, after begging “this society of apostolic life to, without further delay, begin a path of justice and reparation.”
The expulsion of these three members comes after Francis made the same decision with ten members of the same apostolic society less than a month ago, a resolution adopted after receiving complaints of physical abuse, including sadism and violence; abuses of conscience with methods to break the will of subordinates; spiritual abuse, as well as cover-up of crimes committed in the group, among others.
