The Plenary Session of Santander has unanimously approved commissioning a study of alternatives to define “the best technical and economic option” to build a mechanical itinerary that connects Paseo Menéndez Pelayo, General Dávila and the Benidorm Group park, as well as taking into account those that do not involve eliminating parking.
The PSOE proposal has passed unanimously with a transactional process to replace the PP to prepare the study of alternatives and an addiction one from Vox to take into account alternatives that do not involve eliminating parking. Despite the unanimity and the general opinion that these itineraries are “fundamental”, the opposition has criticized the “lack of maintenance” of existing ones and that it causes “indignation” among the neighbors, for which they have demanded “more comprehensive and constant” maintenance.
He has also expressed the “condolences” of all the councilors to the relatives of the three deceased in La Albericia
The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Agustín Navarro, was grateful for the recognition that these infrastructures are “fundamental” for mobility since they were an initiative promoted by the PP in 2007 and there are already 18 routes in the city. From the PSOE, spokesperson Daniel Fernández has thanked all the groups for their support for this itinerary to save the “pindian slopes” of that area and has pointed out that he has avoided criticizing the maintenance of the existing ones “because we already know that they are conspicuous by their absence.” “. The Vox councilor, Emilio del Valle, has also criticized the maintenance of the existing elements, which is “terrible” and has demanded one that is “more comprehensive and constant.” Thus, from the PRC, the councilor Vicente Nieto has expressed the “indignation” that many residents feel when some routes do not work or only partially work and the IU councilor, Keruin Martínez, has shown the “tremendous problem” with maintenance.
MINUTE OF SILENCE
The session began with a minute of silence at flood victims in the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia, as well as by the victims of the collapse of the La Albericia building. Furthermore, the mayor, Gema Igual, has expressed the “condolences” of all the councilors to the relatives of the three deceased in La Albericia and the support of the Corporation to those affected. Regarding the “terrible” consequences of the DANA, he has advanced that the Board of Spokespersons has agreed on the suspension of all activities planned for Halloween due to national mourning.
In plenary session they were approved unanimously. two budget modifications for almost 700,000 eurosthe majority (674,302 euros) to prepare the areas for the installation of shelters at bus stops that do not have them and to solve the problem of slippery pavement in the TUS garages, and another 25,000 euros to acquire two new quadricycles for Civil Protection.
Fernández (PSOE) has denounced the “a multitude of extraordinary credits” that the PP “brings month after month to the Plenary”turning the budget into “wet paper”, but they have voted in favor because the new stops, 45 of the 126 that do not have a marquee, “are justice for the neighbors”, as well as the new provisions for Civil Protection. Del Valle (Vox) has criticized that “once again modifications are being made at the expense of the remainder” and that “legality is once again being skirted” and, although Vox is against this practice, it has supported the modifications because “we do not want to harm the neighbors” in the case of the new canopies, nor to the Civil Protection volunteers with the acquisition of new quadricycles.
The PSOE and Vox have abstained because they agree on rehabilitating Casa Rosales but not on linking its use to Costa Quebrada
For her part, PRC councilor María Victoria Fernández has also criticized the “lack of foresight and planning” that “it is one of the endemic evils of this City Council” and has insisted that this installation of new stops “has been demanded for more than a year.” And, from IU, Martínez has questioned the “lack of foresight” when it comes to counting on that game to prepare the areas where the new stops will be installed and has demanded that “the work be expedited as much as possible because winter is just around the corner.”
NEW MOUNTAIN SCHOOL
On the other hand, the regionalists have asked in a motion to build a pavilion at the Nueva Montaña school in collaboration with the Government, which has not gone ahead due to the rejection of the PP despite the support of the entire opposition. The PP had presented a replacement amendment that asked to commission, within a period of 4 months, the review of the project and updated prices existing in the IMD for the construction of the pavilion and to request the Government’s collaboration to carry out its execution.
The PRC spokesperson, Felipe Piña, has rejected the amendment because “extends deadlines” by reviewing a project that has an 8-month execution. “The project is finished and we cannot spend four months reviewing it, delaying the execution of a necessary infrastructure in a neighborhood that has 30,000 inhabitants,” he said, insisting on its “urgency.”
The mayor explained that The existing project was prepared by the previous Sports councilorfrom Ciudadanos, which gave the green light to an action of 1.6 million “without having it” in the budget and, despite this, the Ministry of Education that managed the PRC was asked for collaboration “and they told us no.” For this reason, he has criticized that “now they come” from the PRC to request this project that, although it is drafted, is “obsolete” after three years and must be reviewed because now, he has estimated, it will amount to about “two million euros.” He has assured that the ‘popular’ consider “a pavilion in Nueva Montaña is necessary” but the Consistory is not in a position to execute it now because “the project must be reviewed and presented to the Government of Cantabria.”
“It would have been very easy if your party in the Ministry had said yes,” said Igual to Piña, and assured him that, despite voting against, the City Council will commission the review of the project and seek the collaboration of the Government.
ROSALES HOUSE
On the other hand, the PRC has demanded to rehabilitate the Casa Rosales, located in Mataleñas, for its destination to the Costa Quebrada Geoparkwhich has declined with the votes against PP, the abstentions of PSOE and Vox and the support of PRC and IU. Piña has not accepted a replacement amendment from the PSOE to address the reform with a contest of ideas and then study its future municipal use, something that for the socialist spokesperson was “more accurate.”
From the PP, Navarro has explained that The drafting of the Special Plan for the Bellavista Racecourse is underwayin which this building is framed, which has a period of a year and a half and of which there will be a first progress at the beginning of 2025. In addition, he has criticized that the PRC links the rehabilitation of this house to a use and “without asking the entity of Costa Quebrada”, which wants to install its center in Santander in La Maruca, in the Litoral Interpretation Center.
The PSOE and Vox have abstained because they agree on rehabilitating the house but not on linking its use to Costa Quebrada, because there is already an “ideal” building to cover that need, which is the interpretation center in La Maruca.
The Plenary has also unanimously approved a motion from Vox, negotiated by the PRC, to review the horizontal and vertical signs and road markings of Santander under municipal ownership and repair those that are in poor condition, as well as develop a maintenance plan. Likewise, a motion has been given the green light, with the votes of PP, PSOE, PRC and IU and the rejection of Vox, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25).
