The United States will soon send air defense systems (AD) to Ukraine “to protect the sky.” This was announced on Wednesday, October 12, by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin.
“The systems will be delivered as quickly as we can physically deliver them,” he said during a press conference.
According to the head of the US Department of Defense, Kyiv will receive weapons used by the United States of America and “countries such as Germany.” In addition, the stock of equipment already in the arsenal of the Ukrainian army will be replenished.
Also on that day, it became known that the total amount of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Washington reached $16.8 billion.
The day before, The Washington Post, citing a former White House official, wrote that US President Joe Biden asked his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky not to complain about insufficient American support, otherwise Kyiv could lose help from Washington.
In the last phone call, which took place on October 10, Biden promised Zelensky to continue to support Ukraine, including the supply of advanced air defense systems.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov pointed to the prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine by the United States with the supply of air defense systems, and the Russian Ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, announced that the United States of America was approaching the “red line” due to assistance to Kyiv.
At the same time, a member of the US House of Representatives, Matt Rosendale, said in early October that American citizens do not have the money that Washington spends on helping Kyiv. In his opinion, these funds should be spent on the internal problems of the country.
Western countries began to arm Ukraine more actively against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect Donbass. Its beginning was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region.
