AfD, parts of the SPD and the Wagenknecht Alliance are blaming the supposedly warmongering West. How far will Putin apologists go?
The tormented people of Ukraine are now spending their third Easter in Putin's hail of bombs. On February 24, 2022, they unmistakably arrived in that new era in which traffic light Germany is still wandering around searching since Olaf Scholz proclaimed the turning point but did not act on it.
Something unheard of is happening in this country: the country's most well-known historians, including the SPD icon Heinrich August Winkler, accuse the self-proclaimed “Peace Chancellor” of using appeasement to encourage Vladimir Putin to wage further wars. Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk rouses sleepwalking Europeans by warning that they are living in a new “pre-war era.” And at 100 Easter marches, pacifists side by side with left- and right-wing radicals accuse not Russia of warmongering, but the West. Anyone who doesn't believe that should read the voluminous pamphlet from the “Munich Peace Alliance” for the march this Saturday. The organizers mentioned, rather casually and dutifully, “Russia’s war of aggression, which violates international law.”
Otherwise, accusations will be leveled at the West. There is talk of “militarization of society” and that Germany should become “peace-oriented” instead of “war-oriented”. A stop to arms deliveries to Ukraine is called for and a “European security order not against, but with Russia.” The only question is why Putin should get involved when, according to the will of the pacifists, he can take everything he wants with impunity .
Peace parties on the wrong track: Unilateral disarmament creates uncertainty against Russia
Is our country still in its right mind? Or is the fear, fatally fomented by the election campaigning “peace party” SPD, clouding the view of what is needed now? It is not the unilateral disarmament and withdrawal of US nuclear weapons demanded by the Easter marchers that makes our country safer, nor is it “mediation” by Putin agent Gerhard Schröder.
But only the consistent creation of a robust military readiness. Comparing the current situation with the bloc confrontation of the 1980s is misguided: At that time, NATO and the Soviet Union were two rational actors with no territorial claims.
Security through defense – disarmament and negotiation without Russia's willingness a trap
However, the Moscow lie baron, who is determined to re-establish the old Tsarist Empire, will hardly mutate into a peace dove if Kiev is left to him for “denazification”, i.e. complete subjugation, and Germany follows the advice of the peace activists, instead of increasing the Bundeswehr and further expanding the welfare state invest.
The longing for peace is as old as humanity – but also the knowledge that people who can defend themselves in an emergency live safer lives. So let's act accordingly instead of falling into the trap of Mützenich, Wagenknecht and the Kremlin-sponsored AfD.
