The index that measures salary parity between women and men increased from 72 in 2013 to 78.7 in 2023, according to data from the Women in the Labor Market survey, carried out by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI). Gender parity is measured on a scale of 0 to 100, with the closer to 100, the greater the equality between them.
The CNI research was carried out using microdata from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNADc) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The information was released this Tuesday (5).
The study also revealed that female participation in leadership positions increased from 35.7% in 2013 to 39.1% in 2023. The female employability index showed an increase between 2013 and 2023, going from 62.6 to 66.6 , respectively, growth of 6.4%.
Despite not being the majority in leadership positions, the survey results indicated that women have more education than men: while they have, on average, 12 years of study; men are 10.7 years old.
The time dedicated to the so-called reproductive workday, that is, that which involves domestic activities and caring for family members, is also greater among women. In the case of employed people, this time was 17.8 hours per week for women and 11 hours for men in 2022. Among the unemployed – unemployed and people looking for a job – the difference is even greater: women work 24. 5 hours of work per week and men, 13.4 hours.
For the president of the CNI, Ricardo Alban, despite the reduction in differences between genders in the last decade, it is necessary to continue moving forward and quickly.
“It is urgent to expand the debate and implement concrete measures to reach a scenario of full equity in the Brazilian labor market”, he assesses.
