Salvador Illa’s Government has received its first great parliamentary setback on Thursday. All the opposition, with the abstention of the commons, has united their votes to request the resignation of the Minister of Territori, Sílvia Paneque, and also to reprob the Minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, the latter with the abstention of ERC and the vote against the commons, for the accumulation of problems in Rodalies.
Although in the votes the majorities have fluctuated, during the plenary, all the opposition parties, including ERC and Comuns, have loaded against the management of the Catalan Executive but, above all, against the companies dependent on the Ministry of Transport, on which the service depends. A situation that has ended up leaving the PSC alone in the defense of both governments, Catalan and central.
Neither illa nor paneque have tried to hide that the trains of nearby in Catalonia “are not working.” This was recognized both on Tuesday, when they began before the plenary with a speech that did not take importance to the chaos of chaos that have accumulated in the service during these first months of 2025, but with the promise that things would be solved gradually.
“The improvements in Rodalies will not be easy or fast,” illa proclaimed, “but we will solve it,” he added, in a blunt message that he already expressed at the time. Illa was carried out with responsibilities as the holder of the service that, in reality, are not so much of the Generalitat and the lack of investment of the various central governments throughout the last decades.
Those promises, which demand two years of margin, have not been enough to calm some matches that try to become the voice of citizen discomfort, increasingly difficult to ignore. But the nuance of criticism has been very different depending on the parties, since while together it has been inclement about the plans to constitution of a new operating company, ERC makes a “transfer” that negotiated themselves with the socialists.
