French President Macron announced the opening of Notre Dame on December 8
Notre Dame Cathedral, restored after a fire, will open to visitors on December 8. French President Emmanuel Macron said this at an event in honor of the 75th anniversary of the German constitution in Berlin, reports RIA News.
First, Macron invited listeners to the Olympic Games, which open in Paris on July 26, and then announced when the renovation of one of the main attractions of the French capital would be completed. On May 25, the restored cross was returned to the roof of Notre Dame. Gradually, scaffolding begins to be removed from the cathedral.
A fire in the cathedral building occurred on April 15, 2019. The entire supporting structure burned, and the spire collapsed. The flames destroyed the roof’s unique timber frame of eight-hundred-year-old oak beams. However, the structure of Notre Dame and the main relics stored in the cathedral were saved.
In 2023, French officials claimed that Notre Dame would open to visitors at the end of 2024, so this promise is close to fulfillment.
They managed to raise a billion euros for the restoration of the temple. When estimating the time required to repair the building, five years was the shortest period; some experts believed that the work would take at least ten years.
