Turin, the only robotic bar opens in Italy: “Operational 24 hours a day, it doesn't make any breaks or errors”
His name is Toni Compatto, and he is the robot responsible for the role of barman at the restaurant Shakerthe new venue which opens on the evening of April 10th in Via Carlo Alberto 11 right in the center of Turin (open to the public the following day).
Shaker is the first flagship bar of Makr Shakr, an example of how robotic technology and tradition can interact in the food and beverage sector. A panel entitled “Tech & The City” is scheduled for the opening evening, with the participation of Paola Pisanoprofessor of Economics and Business Management at the University of Turin, as well as former Italian Minister for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition, and of Giuliana Mattiazzo, professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and current Vice-Rector for Scientific-Technological Innovation at the Polytechnic of Turin. And of course the robot which, in synergy with a human bartender, will prepare the drinks. Who is it aimed at? To those who live/transit in the center (we are a stone's throw from Palazzo Carignano, from Piazza Castello) and to those looking for something different: Shaker has the ambition of attract Gen Z tech-savy, the over 50s curious to try something new. It won't just be about robotic self-sufficiency, but the objective is to seek a balance between technological innovation and the human componentthe ever pursued interaction between man and machine.
The creators of the project – Carlo Rattiand Emanuele Rossetti, CEO of Makr Shakr – aim to free bartenders from the most repetitive tasks, and enhance creativity and human contact. So not just robots, but bar managers who customize drinks based on customer requests (for now, however, at Shaker it will be possible to consult a menu and choose from the classics) offering a highly personalized service and a staff of six people to personalize customer experience. The robot also has a “humanized” name Toni Compattoequipped with a single robotic arm capable of preparing up to 60 drinks per hour by choosing from 70 different bottles for an unlimited drink combination. Toni Compatto is capable of preparing coffee (macchiatos, iced and cappuccino with fresh milk foam) as well to evening cocktails designed by the Bar manager with particular ingredients and proposals that combine the world of coffee and cocktails, such as the Espresso Martini.
Customers can order via tablets available in the venue, enter their name and follow the preparation of the drink on a display behind the robot. Once finished, the drink is collected at the counter at the assigned delivery points. Shaker serves as a hub for the development of new technologies, including artificial intelligence in the future. The objective is to continuously improve the consumption experience, including with a new app, scheduled for the end of 2024, which will allow customers to order via their mobile phone and be notified when to pick up the drinks. They collaborate on the project Lavazzaofficial coffee supplier for Shaker, e Martini & Rossi supplier of the spirits who enriched the cocktail offering, in the name of the Turin tradition of the aperitif.
Shaker will be open from 8.00 to 23.00, except Tuesdays, with an offer from morning coffees to evening cocktails, from breakfast, lunch to aperitifs, at pop prices. And it aims to plan events, in harmony with those of the city, as well as music, talks and cultural events.
