Quirónsalud, through the Teknon Medical Center, will close this weekend the healthcare device that it has led on the occasion of the 37th edition of the Copa América de Sailing, in Barcelona. The official medical center – with several medical care points in the Port Vell of Barcelona – operated from August 22 to October 21 and makes a positive assessment of the work provided.
A total of 40 people continue working until tomorrow, Sunday, to attend to any medical incident. During these two months Quirónsalud has treated up to 275 people – including the public, family members or members of the organization – at the health points set up in both the competition and hospitality areas.
The most frequent type of assistance has been 80% of minor traumas and bruises. Likewise, neurological disorders (dizziness), allergies and dermatological problems, mainly sunburns, have been treated, which have added up to 20%.
Most of the medical assistance has taken place in the Race Village
The majority of people who have required medical attention have not been serious, only mild and without subsequent consequences. Only 5% have been referred to the Teknon Medical Center for more specialized follow-up.
The majority of attendances, 30%, have taken place in the Race Village, 15% in the hospitality area and 12% in the Bogatell area. Of the total of 275 attendees, around 40 have been from sailors or personnel directly linked to the event and the rest have been from the public.
Regarding the nationality of the patients, 50% have been Spanish. The rest have been Italians, Americans and New Zealanders. By age group, the bulk of attendance has been centered between 20 and 25 years old, followed by 32 to 36 years old and 50 to 55 years old. Finally, 60% of men and 40% of women have been attended to.
The device provided by the Teknon Medical Center, with a total of 40 health professionals, has offered quick and effective medical care to all of them who have needed it, allowing the competition to function optimally.
