The number of fatal road accidents increased in 35 regions of Russia

Mortality in traffic accidents has increased in 35 regions of Russia over the past six months

The number of deaths due to road accidents has increased in 35 regions of Russia since the beginning of this year. About it informs Kommersant.

Sevastopol leads the list of deaths from road accidents with a twofold increase in the number of victims. Next come the JAO, Yakutia, the Kemerovo region and Karachay-Cherkessia. The anti-rating also included the Krasnodar Territory, Tatarstan, Belgorod Region and Moscow.

Theories about the reasons for this dynamic vary. The HSE Institute for Transport Economics suggested that the bursts of accidents are associated with the constant stress of drivers against the backdrop of the economic crisis. The Metropolitan Traffic Management Center found a correlation between an increase in deaths and an increase in the number of cyclists on the roads. He also noted that most of the fatal accidents were the result of breaking the rules at high speed.

The traffic police published statistics, according to which over the past six months, 53.5 thousand accidents with victims have occurred on Russian roads. During the same period of time, 5.6 thousand people died as a result of road accidents, and 67.7 thousand were injured.

In some regions of the country, a decrease in road deaths is observed, including in Chechnya, the Kostroma and Astrakhan regions, Karelia and St. Petersburg. Last year, as a solution to the problem, the Russian Ministry of Transport proposed the launch of unmanned vehicles, saying that in the future this would reduce the death toll by 8 percent.
