The infrastructure, which Emuasa undertakes and will be operational at the end of the year, will improve the sanitation network of more than 51,000 residents
By the end of the year, the neighborhoods in the south of Murcia, where more than 51,000 residents live, will have built a new drainage and rainwater collector that will prevent future flooding due to torrential rains. Called AVE-Confluencia, the works on this new infrastructure are part of the effects on the hydraulic networks managed by Aguas de Murcia (Emuasa) due to the construction of the new high-speed rail access drawn up by the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (Adif ) due to the burial of the tracks.
These works, which began last February and will conclude at the end of this year, will “optimize” the sanitation and stormwater service to the neighborhoods of El Carmen, Infante Juan Manuel, Santiago El Mayor, San Pío X and Barrio del Progreso, municipal sources explained.
The collector, 950 meters long, is being executed by drilling with a closed shield in a pit 11 meters deep, where the pipe is subsequently installed. The excavation starts in the ditch executed next to the Plan Sur Wastewater Pumping Station, and runs under the Orilla de la Vía Sur street until its final junction in the already executed confluence manhole.
This work is undertaken because it is related to the rest of the projects affected by the burial. In fact, the confluence collector connects the AVE Norte, 1,600 meters long, and the AVE Sur, 1,175 meters long. “The set of actions is a single operating system that needs to be integrated in all its phases for the correct evacuation of wastewater and rainwater from large sanitation basins in the area of action,” they explain. The planned investment is almost four million euros.
The mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano; the deputy mayor, Mario Gómez, and the director of Aguas de Murcia, Inmaculada Serrano, among other authorities and heads of the municipal company, yesterday visited the works being carried out in a place parallel to the train tracks between the districts of Los Dolores and San Jose de la Vega.
