The Civil Guard of Cantabria warns of scams in the online sale of pelletspecifically to people who buy this biofuel for heating and do not receive it, and also in the acquisition of dog puppies facing Christmas.
The @Cantabria Team of the armed institute, a unit specialized in the investigation of cybercrimes, works in more than 15 complaints for the purchase of pellets so far this fall in the region.
Most cases have as a common denominator the purchasing the product on websites of buying and selling second-hand or second-hand goods, in which they are offered at cheaper prices. Each reported acquisition is between 300 and 500 euros.
The Civil Guard advises to be wary of offers that are “too low” and indicates that, sometimes, websites dedicated to the sale of this type of products can be simulated, with “attractive” prices, so “in principle” one must ” distrust” them and verify if they are real pages or companies.
DOG PUPPIES FOR SALE
And due to the proximity of Christmas, three cases of scams in the purchase of dog puppies have already been detected in Cantabria. Those affected They acquired the dogs through the internetby figures between 300 and 400 eurosprices “significantly lower” than those of these animals through regulated channels, not being able to receive them.
The Civil Guard, in addition to asking “to be wary of low prices”, reports that the commercial breeding of pets is prohibited, except by registered pet breeders, who are the only ones who can make the sale.
“The marketing of dogs, cats and ferrets in pet stores is prohibited. All animals must be registered before being sold, adopted or transferred in the name of the transferor. In the case of adoptions, it can only be carried out in registered animal protection centers or entities,” he points out.
THEY IMPLANT A BANKING ENTITY
Furthermore, Benemérita has detected new cases of ‘smishing’ (cyber attack that targets people via SMS or text message). In this case it is the impersonation of a banking entity, involving updating or bank verifications, communicating incidents related to accounts or cards or other procedures.
These messages include links that redirect to a website with a real appearance of the impersonated banking entity, requesting personal data, bank details, passwords, etc., with which they can later access the victim’s online banking.
From Benemérita it is recommended not to access these links, do not respond to sms and delete them. Victims must immediately contact the customer service telephone number of the bank in question, the facts must be reported to the Security Forces.
