Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra could come with UFS 4.1, an update that would improve the efficiency of AI features. This improvement could make the Galaxy S25 Ultra a point of reference in the smartphone market.
Samsung could equip its next flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with UFS 4.1, according to recent rumors. Currently, Samsung’s flagship models, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra, are equipped with UFS 4.0 flash storage, which offers a fast and responsive user experience, allowing you to open many applications in succession and record at higher resolutions with increased frame rates. However, as more and more complex AI features arrive on the device, the extra processing will put a strain on the performance of current flash memory. As a result, Samsung may beef up the Galaxy S25 Ultra with UFS 4.1.
Optimized for Artificial Intelligence Operations
An earlier rumor suggested that Samsung was working on next-generation UFS storage optimized for AI operations. The UFS 5.0 standard is under developmentbut according to current information, this technology will not be available until 2027. In the meantime, Samsung will likely introduce improvements to UFS 4.0, releasing improved iterations starting with UFS 4.1.
According to Sawyer Galox on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be equipped with UFS 4.1 storage, although It’s unclear whether the cheaper versions will also be able to access it, or whether they will remain at UFS 4.0. What’s disappointing is that we don’t yet know the speed differences between UFS 4.1 and UFS 4.0, as these numbers have been omitted.
Costs, Performance and what UFS memories are
In the past, Samsung has used strategies to vary storage speeds to manage costs. For example, the base Galaxy S24 with 128GB of storage was limited to UFS 3.1 speeds, while the 256GB variant supported the UFS 4.0 standard. It is possible that Samsung will repeat this practice with the launch of the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus, reserving the most advanced storage for the Ultra model.
With on-device AI features slowly gaining traction, more RAM and faster storage will become necessary. For this reason there is also a rumor related to the RAM of the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which it might have 16GB of RAM4 more than the previous one.
UFS (Universal Flash Storage) memories are a type of flash memory used mainly in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. This storage standard is designed to provide high performance, with reading and writing speeds much higher than other memories. UFS enables simultaneous access to multiple data channels, improving efficiency and reducing latency. Additionally, it supports low-power read and write operations, extending the battery life of your devices.
