Beirut (Al-Ittihad)
Yesterday, Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Sloot called for an immediate halt to the deteriorating situation on Lebanon’s southern border with the Israeli occupation.
The Dutch Minister said in a statement to the media after her meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib that her country is concerned about the escalation of the conflict in southern Lebanon and regrets the loss of civilian lives because of its negative impact on Lebanon and the region. She added that it is important to avoid expanding the cycle of violence, expressing her country’s support for a diplomatic solution and the Lebanese army’s support for working to stabilize stability.
The Dutch Minister called on Israel and Lebanon to adopt International Resolution 1701 as a basis for lasting peace and to contribute to its implementation through field action.
She expressed her appreciation for Lebanon’s role “and the great burden it bears in hosting the largest number of displaced Syrians,” noting that the Netherlands has allocated an amount of 140 million euros for the next four years to support rebuilding the private sector in Lebanon, and to help develop the country in cooperation with the European Union.
