For many people, having their own home is a distant dream. However, in the community of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a neighborhood consisting of twenty-three homes that will be given away for free, is ready to be released. These are small, fully equipped properties that will be for those who meet the requirements.
The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center organization took on the task of building these properties with the intention that homeless veterans can have a better quality of life.
The project, which has taken almost two years, is finally scheduled to be inaugurated next month. And not only are these properties that will be given free of charge to veterans, but They have been fully furnished, for example, they have a bed and a small kitchen which includes refrigerator and microwave.
However, it must be said that the work is not completely finished. The parking area has not been finalized yet, although, according to the organization, it is expected to be ready in the coming weeks.
After city officials conduct an inspection that everything is in order, The houses will still be equipped with televisions, as well as kitchen accessories like pots and pans, so that when the veterans arrive, they already have everything ready.
Veterans will have to pay and even move
The organization made an important clarification. Yes ok Most of the houses will be given free of charge, the inhabitants will have to pay a small amount of rent, as long as your finances allow it.
In fact, in this regard, the organization’s director of operations, Doug Allen, declared to the media Fox “when the veteran can pay nominal rent, he will do so and eventually “We will support them enough that they want to move on their own.”
The intention is to give the veterans a first boost and, after that, they begin to help each other to form a community where they can feel at home and seek their own development.
“We shouldn’t have homeless veterans. However, there are and we are doing everything we can to get some of those ladies and gentlemen off the street and get their lives back on track,” Allen said.
He also said that They are planning a second phase of the project with the intention of helping more people.
