The National Dramatic Center activated the protocol for sexual harassment and fired an actor from the play ‘La gaviota’

The National Dramatic Center (CDN) canceled the performance of the play The seagull on October 30th. The reason, as this media has been able to confirm from various sources, was the activation of the protocol due to alleged sexual harassment based on sex, by one of the actors.

This actor, who was fired that same day, was replaced by another performer starting the next day. A large part of the cast is made up of actresses and actors with visual disabilities.

According to sources from the Ministry of Culture, the protocol was activated “quickly”, meetings were held with the affected people and the pertinent reports were prepared, and the agreement signed with the Union of Actors for a case like this was applied.

One of the actresses in the play has published a photograph showing the door of the Teatro Valle-Inclán, headquarters of the CDN, with some signs that read that in the aforementioned play “sexual harassment has been reported” and that “the CDN knows it, hides it and is complicit.” As the actress indicates and this medium has verified from other sources: “If the INAEM and the CDN did not make public the case of harassment that we have suffered, it is because the victims asked them to do so.”

“We victims have felt accompanied, protected, and listened to by our director, by the CDN and by the INAEM, who as soon as they found out, they took action on the matter in an exemplary manner, and replaced him,” adds this actress.

The Ministry of Culture describes these events as a “very serious offense.”

The play by Antón Chekhov directed by Chela de Ferrari, which premiered on October 9 and will continue to be performed until November 10 at the Valle Inclán Theater in Madrid, is scheduled to continue on theaters until November 10.

The CDN is a theater production unit directed by Alfredo Sanzol and dependent on the Ministry of Culture and its National Institute of Performing Arts (INAEM).
