It is no longer just that image or that metaphor, as descriptive as it is precise, baptized by Umberto Eco. In Valencia, in these days of pain and anguish, we have contemplated how that imaginary mud machine seeking to feed on that suffering became real. We have seen how their workers literally wallowed in the mud to give greater credibility to their lies – let’s stop calling them hoaxes when Spanish has a word that describes them with mathematical accuracy.
We have seen it work live, in prime time, on social networks and in the magazines of conventional media, but also in some of their news programs; incapable of not picking on their hooks launched into a suicidal race to try to retain the audience by delivering emotions instead of information, where it is difficult to differentiate, in form and content, the entries of many reporters on the news with the videos of certain influencers on the hunt for likes monetizable.
