Motorcycles currently on the market are receiving the same sticker as 15 years ago despite being significantly more sustainable
The National Association of Companies of the Two Wheels Sector,
Anesthetist, has transferred to the Government the discomfort of the companies that it represents before the
lack of solutions regarding environmental labeling of motorcycles. Today’s bikes receive the same label, the ‘C’, as those registered in 2007 despite being significantly more sustainable.
The sector considers that this detrimental situation faced by both companies and users could be remedied without a general modification being necessary for all automotive segments. His request comes as the reform of labeling for passenger cars, originally scheduled for July, has come to a standstill due to opposition from car manufacturers.
In the case of light vehicles, Anesdor raises the possibility that Euro5 motorcycles receive the ECO label, currently deserted in this type of vehicle. Another option would be to
will be cataloged under a newly created ‘D’ label.
In the opinion of the association, the need to modify the classification “is imperative taking into account that in 2023 all municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants will have to have a regulation restricting access to city centers.” Motorcycle and car labels are not equivalent. The classification developed by the DGT in 2016 distributed the distinctions by categories within each type of vehicle. To the extent that the vast majority of municipalities are unaware of it and apply the rules based exclusively on the category, it is a manifest injustice that light vehicles are harmed, it explains in a statement.
Therefore, Anesdor considers that it should be a priority of the Administration to offer
easy access to cities to more sustainable vehicles as this will help improve air quality. Additionally, new vehicles also present advantages in the field of road safety since they have more and better driver assistance systems.
