The Minister of Transport announces the “imminent” approval of the burial of Lorca

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, indicated yesterday that the central government plans to approve “imminently” the integration of the railway as it passes through Lorca in a definitive way, which includes the burying of part of the route, so that the Mediterranean Corridor can be extended in 2026 to Almería, where the works for the undergrounding of the tracks in the capital and the adaptation of the station to accommodate the arrival of the AVE have just been tendered.

“Project by project, work by work, we are advancing in the construction of this strategic high-speed line for the Corridor in which we are going to invest close to 3,500 million euros,” said the minister during her speech at the inauguration of the recently restored access platform to the mineral loading area ‘El Alquife’.

Sánchez, who recalled that last week the drafting of the project for the AVE station in Vera (Almería) was awarded for almost 727,500 euros, assured that the route between Murcia and Almería is “practically complete under works”, which he considers the ” tangible and evident proof” of the “commitment” of the Executive with the Mediterranean Corridor.

“I think that few projects in general have received so much financial support in recent years,” added the head of Transport, who believes that Almería will be “one of the great beneficiaries” within the “ambitious investment package”, which will allow not not only “promote the transformation of mobility” with the arrival of the AVE in 2026, according to its deadlines, but also “complete the metamorphosis of the city” by burying almost two kilometers of tracks.

Adif has tendered for 196.7 million euros the railway integration works in the capital of Almeria; work that will be financed with the help of the Junta de Andalucía and the Almería City Council.
