Rafa Nadal puts an end to one of the best sports races in historywith 92 titles, 22 of them Grand Slam. Since 2010, the Manacorí has collected the trophies with a luxury accessory on his wrist: a high-end watchonly available to a privileged few. It is common for brands to focus on elite athletes like the Spaniard to promote their products. He noticed Rafa Nadal Richard Millea brand born in 2001, and with which the tennis player maintains a collaboration that has now lasted 14 years. Together they have developed a watch collection which has various models, most with an approximate price of one million euros, and in limited editions of 50 units. The first was the RM 027, which was launched in 2010, and then other models would arrive, until the last one, launching in 2024, the RM 27-05.
Of the RM 027, 50 units were launched. Was the lightest watch of the moment until that moment (20 grams), but also resistant. With a manually wound tourbillon movement, it had a case made of a composite material with a high carbon content. After the launch of the RM-035 in 2011, in 2013, Richard Mille and Rafa Nadal launched the RM 027-01, which stood out for its movement completely suspended in the center of the case, for which the manufacturer was inspired by the infrastructure of civil engineering suspended.
In 2015, Rafa Nadal’s wrist sported a new Richard Mille with orange strap. The RM 27-02 model stood out for carrying the first monocoque skeletonized plate, a technical feat, inspired by the frames of racing cars, which improves the solidity and resistance to shocks in the watches. The watch had an impressive mechanical movement capable of working for more than 70 hours.
In 2017, coinciding with the Roland Garros tournament, a new model was presented, the RM 27-03. The design of the watch, light and resistant to any impact, was a tribute to the Spanish flag, with a yellow and red dial and strap. An edition limited to 50 units and valued at 799,000 eurosat that time.
Then came the RM 27-04, with which he won the 2020 Australian Open. This model commemorated the 10 years of collaboration between Rafa Nadal and Richard Mille, and like its predecessors, it stood out for its lightness and robustness. Its launch price was $1,020,000, about 932,000 euros to the current change. With this same model he collected the last Roland Garros that he won in 2022.
In 2023 came the RM 35-03 Automatic Rafael Nadal Carbon TPT, with a price of 220,000 euroswhich highlighted a new winding mechanism called the butterfly rotor, a patented invention designed to optimize the rotor’s armed movement to fit the watch owner’s lifestyle.
The latest model in the collection of the tennis player and the company that manufactures in Switzerland is the RM 27-05 Flying Tourbillon which premiered during the last Roland Garros (2024). It weighs only 11.5 grams, without the strap, making it the lightest and strongest mechanical tourbillon watch in the world ever manufactured to date. This model also incorporates a new material developed based on carbon, which was the culmination of five years of R&D for the brand, together with a Swiss company that is an expert in composite materials. Only 80 units were released, at a price of one million euros.
