Establishes a list of “safe countries” from which a person does not have to escape
The Italian Government of Giorgia Meloni approved this Monday a decree to establish by law the list of “safe countries” from which immigrants come and shield its controversial detention centers in Albania.
The objective is to protect this list, with countries that have, in accordance with the Meloni Ejectuvio, sufficient guarantees for its citizens do not need to escape. To implement this strategy, the Government resorts to this type of decrees with the force of law used in moments of “need or urgency” and which must be revalidated by Parliament within a period of 60 days.
The list It is now made up of 19 countries of the original 22: “We have taken into account territorial integrity and have excluded Cameroon, Colombia and Nigeria.” It has been detailed by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, who has specified that this compendium of States allows judges “to have a parameter against an equivocal interpretation.”
«We have had hundreds of previous cases of decisions that we did not agree with and we have legitimately challenged. Now it is the rule of law and We offer a valuation made by law», he stressed.
At the same press conference, the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, stated that this measure “arises from a very complex and articulated European Court ruling written in French”: «It probably has not been well understood or well read».
The Meloni Government has approved this decree after last Friday’s decision by the Roman Justice of return the twelve immigrants to Italy from Egypt and Bangladesh who had already arrived at the Albanian detention centers.
