«This Government is not going to abandon the victims. No resignation is an option. “We can only consider continuing to work on the recovery and restitution of the damage caused in the midst of the greatest crisis that this country has experienced in recent years.”
This is how the vice president of the Generalitat, Susana Camarero, expressed herself this Sunday after the massive demonstration that this Saturday demanded the resignation of the regional president, Carlos Mazón, for his management of the catastrophic DANA that devastated the province of Valencia on October 29 .
The message has been clear. “Absolute respect” and “understanding” in the face of the population’s indignation. Regarding the errors made, the Consell is focused on the reconstruction and the victims of the catastrophe, he assured, “I don’t think they care about some of the issues they hear in the media,” but rather knowing how they are helped to recover their life.
Both Camarero and Mazón himself have referred journalists to the appearance that the head of the Valencian Executive will make in the Valencian Cortes next Thursday to give “explanations”, questioned by the contradictory versions that have been offered by the Consell on different issues. Until then, according to the vice president, “the entire Valencian Government is at the disposal of the president.” Any decision and its communication “is up to him.”
«I want to remember that it is on my initiative. I have not seen anyone else request an appearance at another parliamentary headquarters of any institution,” Mazón insisted upon his arrival at the CECOPI meeting.
“Out of respect for those who feel this pain and frustration, which is what we are working for, I do not want to qualify other behaviors that you all saw yesterday and that I believe the victims and the Valencian people do not deserve,” he stated, in reference to the acts of vandalism by radicals in the protest calling for his resignation in Valencia.
Along the same lines, Camarero has regretted that “the pain of the affected people is politicized.” “It pains us that there have been violent groups that, at the end of a legitimate, peaceful demonstration that showed signs of that pain, have caused riots,” he noted.
«The groups that called the demonstration have to feel the same pain that we feel and condemn and denounce these serious events, because they distort the reality of the message. “I’m sure it’s not what they were looking for and expecting,” she added, expressing her solidarity with the 31 injured police officers.
