If not exceeded, a period of one month would be opened for the presentation of a motion of censure proposing an alternative government to the current one
The mayor of Moratalla, Jesús Amo, raised this Wednesday a question of confidence linked to the approval of the Municipal Budgets of 2022. A measure that he claims to adopt “to resolve the political blockade suffered by the Moratalla City Council once the groups of the The opposition have twice rejected the budget proposal for this new exercise.
Amo recalls the refusal in the plenary sessions on November 26 as well as the one held on December 29 in his opinion “despite the efforts made by the Municipal Government to include the proposals of the opposition political groups in the project.”
The mayor considers in the registered letter that «the City Council cannot remain impassive in the face of this situation that leads the municipality to an uncertain future due to the loss of investment possibilities in Moratalla and districts, also preventing the economic update of municipal budgets, those for 2016 being the last approved ”.
Once this question of trust related to the municipal budget has been raised, the procedure will follow the processing of this mechanism made available by the Local Finance Regulatory Law to raise proactive questions in search of unblocking. The first step is the convocation of a commission for next Tuesday, January 11, starting at 8:00 p.m. with the aim of raising the question of trust fully.
In the case in which the question of confidence were to prosper, the municipal budget proposed by the Municipal Government would be approved initially. But in the case of a majority negative vote, a period of one month would be opened for the presentation of a motion of censure proposing an alternative municipal government to the current one. In this case, if said proposal is not presented or if it is presented but does not succeed, the budgets currently proposed would be considered automatically approved.
The plenary session of the Moratalla City Council has 13 municipal councilors, who after the 2019 elections are divided into three municipal groups. Six of them are from the Socialist Group, which was the most voted force in that electoral call, five are from the Popular Municipal Group, and two from the Ganar Moratalla-Izquierda Unida Group.
