As a result of the shelling of Donetsk by Ukrainian militants, seven people were killed. This was announced on September 22 by the mayor of the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Alexei Kulemzin in his Telegram channel.
“The Kyiv region of Donetsk, a girl was killed as a result of the shelling, there are hits on residential buildings,” the report says.
The shelling of the city by the nationalists became known earlier, on September 22. The blow was aimed at the center of Donetsk, and the shells hit the entrance of the covered part of the market, as well as the Donetsk City area and Artem Street, where the city administration is located.
The war correspondent of the Izvestia TV channel showed the situation on the market in the center of Donetsk. The journalist said that the blow was delivered on an exclusively civilian object with the potential stay of a large number of people. At the same time, the city does not exclude that the shelling will intensify in order to create panic among the population and force as many people as possible to leave and disrupt the referendum.
Referendums on joining Russia will be held in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics from 23 to 27 September. During the same period, voting will take place in Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to start it was made in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling from Ukraine. Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting military operations in the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine.
