Today, Saturday, the Mauritanian army began military maneuvers for various formations on the southeastern border with Mali.
A military source reported that the maneuvers are the first of their kind in these border areas with Mali, involving the air force, artillery, and the drone base in the city of Naama, the largest city in the Eastern Province, which is 1,200 km away from the capital, Nouakchott.
These maneuvers will last for two days and come in response to the incursions of the Malian army into a number of Mauritanian border villages.
The official spokesman for the Mauritanian government, Minister of Energy, Nani Ould Achrouka, threatened that his country will deal harshly to anyone who intrudes into its territory or harms its citizens.
The Minister of Defense, Hanen Ould Sidi, and the Minister of Interior, Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed El Amin, arrived today, Saturday, in the Hodh El Sharqi Governorate to supervise the activities of the military maneuvers.
The Commander of the General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Mokhtar Ould Bella Chaabane, is also present in the governorate for the same purpose. The Army Commander visited the battalions and military formations deployed on the border with Mali.
