LPR Ombudsman Soroka: since 2014, about 5.5 thousand civilians have died in the LPR
In the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), about 5.5 thousand civilians have died since 2014, and searches are underway for missing persons. This was reported by RIA News Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic Anna Soroka.
“In total, according to our calculations, since 2014, about 5.5 thousand civilians have died in the LPR. During this time, 1,178 people were exhumed, of which just over 55 percent were identified,” the ombudsman said.
According to her, investigations began ten years ago on a voluntary basis – local residents developed a warning system, recorded burial sites and inscriptions on crosses and tablets in notebooks, which subsequently accelerated the work.
Earlier, Soroka reported that since 2021, in the LPR, members of the interdepartmental working group have found the graves of more than 1.2 thousand civilians who died as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to her, experts have already exhumed 1,209 bodies. As of May 1, 2024, 55 percent of those killed had been identified.
