The attractiveness of Spain for the largest low-cost European airlines has been made clear in a first half of reactivation for traffic. The industry leader, Ryanairhas moved 19.9 million travelers to or from Spain and is only three percentage points from its record in the same period of 2019. The Iberia groupwith the contribution of Iberia Express and Air Nostrumis placed between the two references of the low cost with 11.3 million passengers, which represents 84% of the volume obtained as of June 2019.
It is betting decisively on Spanish destinations WizzAir, which has just decided to cut capacity by 5% without apparently affecting its operations in this country. In addition to this last reference, the number of travelers increases the German Eurowings and the Spanish Canarias Airlines and Volotea.
Among the network companies, Iberia distances itself from Air Europa. If the former represents 17% of its passenger traffic in the first half of 2019, the firm of Globalia, which was already 1.8 million travelers below, has 33 points to recover. The current distance between the two exceeds 2.5 million travelers from January to June.
Aena revealed yesterday that it has obtained a recovery rate of 89.2% in June compared to the same month of 2019, reaching 24.3 million travelers. The movement of aircraft was 211,768, with the return of 93.8% of aircraft traffic, and cargo reached 80,068 tons, 3.5% above the comparable month of 2019.
Of the total number of travelers in June, 16.5 million traveled on international flights (14.4% less than in June 2019) and 7.7 million traveled on domestic flights (only 2.2% less).
