Interviewed by GamesBeat, the CEO of Embracer Freegroup, Lee Guinchardreported that there are new video games on The Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth coming soon, with the intention of building a sort of connected universe between the various experiences of the franchise.
As reported in recent days, Embracer Group will undergo a drastic reorganization, with the conglomerate splitting into three public companies: Coffee Stain & Friends, Asmodee Group, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends.
Already from the name of one of the three companies we can deduce the importance assigned to the Lord of the Rings license, which in fact will probably be exploited properly in the next period, as reported by Guinchard.
Some kind of MCU take on Lord of the Rings?
The idea that emerges from what the CEO of Embracer Freegroup reported is a sort of parallel between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Lord of the Rings franchiseso we can probably expect a similar treatment in videogame terms, with a sort of interconnected universe of various experiences linked to the setting created by Tolkien.
“From year to year, you can add things and try new ones as happens for example with call of Duty“, explained Guinchard, thus comparing the Middle-earth games with the Activision series, which seems to point to a possible annualization of the franchise in the gaming sector.
The interview also talks about the failure of some projects such as The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, with the CEO claiming that these too are important in the company’s evolution process, in order to reach higher quality levels.
Furthermore, Middle Earth is specifically mentioned, which could also suggest a return to the series started by Monolith, although in this case it seems to be above all a reference to the generic setting of the franchise in question.
