It is unlikely that anyone has never seen a piece of ‘Summer Blue‘. The successful series that swept RTVE In the early eighties it triumphed thanks to its protagonists and everyday plots with which everyone could feel represented. The production, directed by Antonio Mercero, told the stories of a group of teenagers in their summer in a town on the Costa del Sol.
Thus, the characters knew how to talk about friendship, love and lack of love, social differences, the lack of parents or the death of loved ones, to mention just some of the many themes that were touched on. The mythical Whitebait (played by Antonio Ferrandis) and Julia (played by María Garralón) were guiding the group in their adventures and misadventures and became some of their most beloved characters.
Young people, however, also had their army of fans. Pancho or ‘Piranha’ triumphed for his endearing roles, but so did the other members of the group, from Javi to Desi, Tito and Quique. Among the girls, it stood out BeaTito’s sister, a young woman who played at 18 years old Pilar Torres who, with that character, saw his fame catapult. She is still remembered for her role to this day.
Together with his sister
And Bea, who was supposed to be 15 years old, was the pretty one of the group and the one who had Pancho and Javi’s heart stolen. In fact, they both competed for her throughout the series. Torres, who currently has 62 yearshas always been linked to the world of acting, although with less media roles. His Sister Christina She is also an actress: in fact, they both started acting as children and were signed together by Mercero to play Bea and Desi in ‘Verano Azul’.
Before the legendary series, Pilar had already been in front of the cameras in the films ‘The 80s are today’ (with Catherine Deneuve and Fernando Rey) or ‘Emilia…parada y fonda’ (with Ana Belén) or in the series ‘Fortunata y Jacinta’. From ‘Verano Azul’ she became, without a doubt, one of the faces of the moment in Spain and after the Mercero series the ‘boom’ continued although she decided to put her career as an actress on hold.
Her decision had, in large part, to do with the fact that the paparazzi were chasing her, especially since it was known that she had had a romantic relationship with Carlos de las Herasa cameraman in the series who was also the artist’s brother Rocío Dúrcal. In addition to this episode, the truth is that she also admitted in an interview that it was difficult for her to find opportunities that attracted her.
Little has been revealed about her private life, but it is known that she is separated and has two children, the first of them with De las Heras (so the son is cousin of Carmen Morales and Shaila Dúrcal) shortly after finishing filming ‘Verano Azul’ and, therefore, being very young. All of this led her to take a radical turn in her career and she decided to enter the world of health and care and trained as a nursing assistant.
Pilar was working on the Air military hospital, in Madrid and his last known employment is at the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital, also in Madrid. Her sister has followed a similar path and also works in nursing. Due to her change of direction, she has surely been the least seen in the tributes after the series but on occasion she has participated in them with her co-stars.
