The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been a much talked about title for years, well before its release. Considering the series it belongs to, you won’t be surprised to learn that fans have been speculating about the game’s content since before they knew its subtitle. After they knew it, they continued to speculate, unaware that Nintendo had considered several names for the game (as happens very often).
Aonuma teaches
The revelation was made by Eiji Aonuma, the series manager for Nintendo, who spoke about it in the pages of the game’s official catalog. According to what he said, for most of the development the team thought it would be called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Dragon. Why was this subtitle dropped? Simple: Without giving away too much of the plot, Aonuma mentioned that going with that subtitle would reveal too much about some of the content before players had a chance to play.
Be that as it may, the fact remains that for years the developers called the latest Zelda “Tears of the Dragon”, so much so that many thought it would be released with that name. In the end, other evaluations were made, other subtitles were put on the table and the one suggested by a member of the staff, Tears of the Kingdom, won, which the team thought worked really well. Once the choice was made and made definitive, the logo was created and the rest is history, as our review tells us.
