The Last of Us, TV series: do some shots from the 2nd season show Ellie too young?

There second season of The Last of Us TV series is in production and, as anyone who has played the game knows well, will follow once again Ellie who is played by Bella Ramsey. The actress did not convince all fans of the game, who found her unsuitable in terms of appearance: Ramsey is young and is able to easily represent a character who must appear more child than adult. The problem is that with the second season things get more complicated.

The Last of Us Part 2 takes place after a five year time jump and Ellie changes a lot. If in the first chapter she is a little girl, in the second she is a young woman, very young on paper but with a more adult body and tested by a hard life in a world where one continually risks death. Obviously the actress can’t easily pull off a transformation like this in a short amount of time, and one wondered how the series would address the issue.

We don’t have a definitive answer, but we have a way to get an idea about it through some shots “stolen” from the set.

Ramsey and Season 2’s Ellie

Ramsey, in those images, has a hairstyle a little more similar to Ellie from The Last of Us Part 2, but it doesn’t seem like there was a lot of effort put into making her look more adult. The “problem” is not purely one of similarity to the game (not necessary to make a good TV series) but thematic. Ellie in the second season should be (or become in a certain sense) a brutal hunter: We don’t want to give spoilers so we can’t go into more detail, but his character is more violent and to a certain extent evil. A face that is too young could make it difficult to convey this message.

Obviously there are a series of considerations to make. First of all, these are unofficial shots and we cannot reach any definitive conclusions. That’s not necessarily the character’s final appearance. It could also be Ellie’s appearance in a flashback, during which Ellie is actually still young. Furthermore, it is possible that the second season of The Last of Us changes the timing and eliminates the time jump or makes it less clear. Finally, it must be remembered that acting, good direction and even just adequate costumes can help a lot in transforming a face that seems too young into one perfect for the scene.
