From Friday 12 April 2024, Il Re 2, the second season of the series with Luca Zingaretti, will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic and NOW. The eight new episodes, again directed by Giuseppe Gagliardi, are written by Peppe Fiore, Alessandro Fabbri and Federico Gnesini and see the much-loved Roman actor back in the role of Bruno Testori, the director of a border prison at the end of the first season prisoner of his own kingdom, the San Michele. Plot
Bruno Testori, The King, is now a prisoner locked up in his own prison. At least until Gregorio Verna, head of the secret services, drops his accusations and reinstates him in the role of director. In exchange he wants him to talk to a prisoner who is about to be transferred to San Michele: Vittorio Mancuso, a well-known magistrate accused of the murder of an employee of Slimpetroil Spa, a renowned and important national energy company. Although the man proclaims his innocence, Verna maintains that he is guilty and wants Bruno to find out what the magistrate and the victim said to each other for months and why he then killed her. And this is strictly before Mancuso goes to testify before a GIP. They have ten days to get that information. Only ten.
Forced against his will to accept this collaboration, Bruno works behind the scenes to get Mancuso to talk, but he doesn't let himself be cajoled or intimidated. His unreasonable and obstinate silence, combined with the sudden and all too fortuitous discovery of the murder weapon that definitively condemns him, make Bruno grow in fear of a machination of which he would be an unaware instrument. And if it is true that in his kingdom he has always exercised his idea of justice in an often questionable way, there is one thing that he does not tolerate: that the power decides to crush a potentially innocent person for superior interests. With the help of his men, the “praetorians”, of Mancuso's intelligent and determined lawyer, Claudia Agosti, of his ex-wife Gloria, who will decide to trust him again despite the risks, and, last resort, of his historic arch-enemy , the PM Laura Lombardo, Bruno will try in every way to bring the truth to light, however inconvenient it may be. But doing so will come at a much higher price than expected.

Alongside Luca Zingaretti (Inspector Montalbano, Sanguepazzo, No Activity – Nothing to report) Isabella Ragonese returns (Like sheep among wolves, Yara, Il padre d'Italia), who again plays Sonia Massini, now commander of the penitentiary guards of San Michele, Anna Bonaiuto (Volare, Loro, My brother is an only child) again in the role of the public prosecutor who investigates the network of crimes and connivances headed by Testori, Laura Lombardo, who in the new season will be “promoted and transferred” in another court precisely because of her, and Barbora Bobulova (Il sol dell'avvenire, Brado, Nata per te), who in the new episodes will once again be the ex-wife of the character played by Zingaretti, a service agent who works in the cybersecurity department. Also returning are Alida Baldari Calabria (Pinocchio, Brado, That Dirty Black Bag), interpreter of Bruno's very young daughter, and all the “praetorians” of San Michele: Alessandro Gazale (Hypersomnia, All Dogs Die Alone), Antonio Gargiulo (Gomorrah – The series, Sulla mia pelle), Paolo D. Bovani (All Home Well, Leonardo, Beautiful to Die for), Salvatore D'Onofrio (Capri Revolution, Certain Children) and Federico Pasquali (Il Divin Codino, Io sono l'abisso , a love).
New entry in the cast of this season Fabrizio Ferracane (L'Arminuta, The Bad Guy, Ariaferma) in the role of Gregorio Verna, head of the secret services, Thomas Trabacchi (Nico, 1988, Novel of a massacre, Studio Battaglia) in those of a magistrate detained at San Michele, Vittorio Mancuso, Caterina Shulha (The Man in the Labyrinth, Hypersomnia, It's All Freud's Fault – The Series) who will play Claudia Agosti, Mancuso's lawyer, and Stefano Dionisi (Three Floors, The Great game, The Blood of the Vanquished) as a prison inmate who will soon become Testori's friend.
