The judge investigating Begoña Gómezwife of the President of the Government, has decided to accuse the former Madrid councilor Juan José Güemes, who is a director at the Instituto de Empresa, whom he had summoned as a witness this Monday.
Legal sources have informed EFE that the judge Juan Carlos Peinado has informed Güemes of the change in condition in the courtroom itself after his statement.
In this case, the judge is investigating alleged crimes of corruption in business and influence peddling that, in addition to Begoña Gómez, are directed against the businessman. Juan Carlos Barrabes and the rector of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Joaquin Goyache.
Peinado summoned Juan José Güemes a month ago, after the director of Human Resources of the Business Institute (IE) will identify him as the person who gave the order to hire the wife of the President of the Government as head of the Africa Center institute, dependent on IE.
Güemes, current director of the Instituto de Empresa, had an outstanding political career with the Popular Party, being a counselor in the Government of Esperanza Aguirre and Secretary of State for Tourism under José María Aznar. Although it was investigated in Punic casethe judge closed the case against him.
Another key witness in the investigation is Gabriel Ramón Navarro, director of the UCM legal department, who signed a report last July. In this document, the university’s legal services report on the actions taken to find out “whether there has been a private use or appropriation of the product”, although they regret that they have not been able to reach a “definitive conclusion”, in particular “due to the lack of collaboration of certain interveners”.
The judge had also summoned Gómez this Monday to inform him in person of the new crimes charged. However, Gómez presented his participation in the G-20 summit in Brazil as justification, which led the judge to postpone his appearance to December 18.
