FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid face each other this weekend in what is one of the great games of LaLiga Santander, and a meeting with a special flavor for Luis Suárez and Antoine Griezmann, if he recovers in time, since They will face their old team.
Throughout history we have seen many players who have passed through the ranks of Barça and Atleti and we have made the ideal eleven of the players who wore both shirts.
Miguel Reina is one of the few goalkeepers who has worn both shirts. The goalkeeper began his professional career at Córdoba, and between 1966 and 1973 he played for FC Barcelona where he won two Generalissimo Cups, one Fairs Cup and was also for Zamora in LaLiga in his last season.
In 1973 he signed for Atlético de Madrid where he stayed until his retirement in 1980. With the rojiblancos he won another Zamora trophy, a Generalissimo Cup, a league and the Intercontinental.
Delfí Geli played for Barcelona for two seasons, 1989/90 and 1990/91. Between 1994 and 1999 he played for Atlético de Madrid as part of the team that won the double in the 1995/1996 season.
Pablo Alfaro played for several LaLiga teams, his time at Sevilla being perhaps the most remembered. but before signing for the Seville team he played one season at FC Barcelona (1992/93) and another at Atlético de Madrid (1996/97).
The current Barcelona B coach was trained in the youth categories of the Barça team and played in the first team between 1993 and 2002, winning nine titles. In 2002 he went to Atlético de Madrid where he retired three years later.
Barjuán used to play as a left back but also played in the center of defence.
One of the fastest left backs of his time and that made his debut playing central. Julio Alberto was trained in the lower categories of Atlético de Madrid and after passing through Recreativo de Huelva he played for the rojiblanco team between 1977 and 1982. That summer he signed for FC Barcelona where he stayed until his retirement in 1991 and won nine titles .
Eusebio Sacristán played for Atlético for one season (1987/88). That summer he joined FC Barcelona as part of the Dream Team with which he won the first European Cup among other titles.
In 1995 he left the Camp Nou for Celta de Vigo before returning to Real Valladolid a year later.
Thiago Motta went through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona before making his debut with the first team in 2001. After six seasons as a Barça player, he headed to Vicente Calderón and played one season at Atlético de Madrid (2007/2008).
We did not see the best version of the midfielder at Barça or Atleti but at Inter Milan.
The talented German midfielder played for FC Barcelona for eight seasons (1980-1988) in which he won four Copas del Rey, one League and one Cup Winners’ Cup. Between 1990 and 1993 he wore the colors of Atlético de Madrid, winning more Copas del Rey.
Schuster also played for Real Madrid before signing for Atleti (1888-1990), being one of the few players to have played for the big three of Spanish football.
Antoine Griezmann has twice made the trip between the Wanda Metropolitano and the Camp Nou. Between 2014 and 2019 he played for Atlético de Madrid where he became one of the best players in the world. Finally in 2019 and after many rumors and a controversial documentary broadcast a year earlier, the Frenchman decided to go to FC Barcelona.
In the Barça team he did not find his best version and in 2021 he returned to Atleti on loan with a mandatory purchase option.
David Villa signed for FC Barcelona in 2010 from Valencia and spent three seasons at the Camp Nou in which he won all possible titles. In 2013 he was transferred to Atlético de Madrid where he only spent one season and was proclaimed champion of the League.
The Uruguayan was the last player to wear both shirts. Luis Suárez signed for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2014 and remained with the Barça team until 2020, winning all possible titles and breaking records.
In the summer of 2020 Koeman informed him that he did not have him and he left as a free agent for Atlético de Madrid with whom he conquered LaLiga. The 2021/2022 season is his second as a rojiblanco, we will see if it is the last or if he extends his contract.
