Pentagon chief Austin returns to duty after medical procedure
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin safely underwent a medical procedure for bladder problems and returned to duty, reported Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder.
According to him, the procedure at a hospital near Washington took two and a half hours, during which time Austin handed over authority to his deputy, Caitlin Hicks.
“Today, at approximately 18:00 US East Coast time (01:00 Moscow time Saturday), Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III underwent a successful elective, minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure,” the spokesman said. At 20:25 (03:25 Moscow time Saturday), Austin resumed his duties as Secretary of Defense.
In February, Austin was admitted to the intensive care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center due to bladder problems.
