The Government suspends mobility on Monday in nine regions of southern Catalonia due to the warning of torrential rains

The Catalan Government will restrict mobility in nine regions of the Ebro Lands, Camp de Tarragona and Penedès starting at midnight and throughout Monday due to the alert of heavy rains in the coming hours, as announced by the Minister of the Interior. and Public Security, Nuria Parlon.

Furthermore, in these regions, classes and the university will be suspended and it is recommended to use teleworking. The affected regions are Baix Ebre, Montsià, Terra Alta, Ribera d’Ebre, Baix Camp, Priorat, Tarragonès, Alt Camp and Baix Penedès. Civil Protection will send an alert to the mobile phones of people in these areas to inform them of the restrictions adopted.

Torrential rain warning

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has updated this Sunday morning the warning of a dangerous situation due to precipitation. It could exceed 20 liters per square meter in 30 minutes in the south of the country this Sunday and 40 liters per square meter on Monday in Terres de l’Ebre, Priorat and Baix Camp. Rains are also expected, although less intense, in the rest of the Catalan coast.

At the moment, the Generalitat Firefighters have registered 14 warnings for incidents caused by the storms between 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. this Sunday. Even so, Civil Protection has reported that the rain intensity threshold has not been exceeded nor have there been any incidents, despite the fact that the special emergency plan for flood risk in Catalonia (Inuncat) remains on alert.
