Ana Pardo de Vera: “We need more tools, more professionals and more care in guardianship centers”
“The station girls It is the result of impressive work by Juana Macías and her team; but also, it is the fruit of a commitment to a group of women – supervised minors – abandoned to their fate. A State that calls itself based on law, a democracy consolidated society, an advanced society, can no longer ignore these girls, their loneliness and helplessness,” says Pardo de Vera. He adds that “we need more tools, more professionals and more care, education and future prospects in guardianship centers. It is our obligation as journalists to give voice to this film, to report and make visible such a painful and unsustainable situation.
A story based on real events
On January 8, 2020, a 13-year-old minor was raped by a group of boys in Palma de Mallorca. The perpetrators of the rape were sentenced to one year of confinement and 8,500 euros in compensation for the victim, but most of the complaints are still awaiting trial. This case was what inspired Macías to create The station girls.
“Deep down, The station girls is a story about the infinite capacity of human beings to resist and flourish in the worst circumstances. I am sure that viewers, in addition to discovering the lives of our protagonists, will discover the lessons that can only be taught by those who have been dealt the worst cards in life, and who, despite that, fight every day to improve their lives. luck,” says the film’s director.
Other recent cases similar to the one mentioned show the persistence of child sexual exploitation in Spain. For example, when the Supreme Court convicted two pimps who drugged and prostituted three minors warded by the Government of Navarre or when the Prosecutor’s Office reached an agreement with the businessmen accused of prostituting at least 11 minors in Murcia.
The station girls It is a production of FeelGood Media (Juana Macías, Juan Moreno and Guillermo Sempere), Kowalski Films (Koldo Zuazua), La Perifèrica Produccions (Bàrbara Ferrer, Montse Rodríguez and Cesc Mulet) and The girls of the AIE station. The film features the participation of RTVE, IB3 and Movistar Plus+and has received the support of Ministry of Culture, he Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Artsthe Mallorca Tourism Foundation, Mallorca Film Commissionthe Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council.
