The Emergency Coordination Center (CEE) of the Generalitat has once again launched the mobile civil protection alert Es-Alert to the population, in this case in the province of Castellón, to provide preventive information about the storm. The message, sent at 11:50 a.m., asks Castellón residents “to stay in their homes in elevated areas” and “if they are outside, take shelter at high points.”
The Castelló City Council decreed the suspension of classes “in prevention of possible mobility problems” when it was already past 10:30, that is, when the students were already in the classrooms.
The alert sent also asks the population not to travel on roads, as agreed by the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi), given the episode of heavy rains. This is also recalled in another alert sent to cell phones in the province of Valencia, which asks people to avoid road trips to “allow emergency personnel to work.”
Municipalities with suspended classes
The Castellón municipalities of Peñíscola, Torreblanca, Vall d’Alba, Vila-real, Oropesa, Segorbe, Viver, IES Viver-Jérica, Les Coves de Vinromà, Xert, Tírig, La Salzadella, Forcall, Olocau, La Mata, Sant Mateu, Vinaròs, Castelló de la Plana, Betxí, Borriana, Almassora have closed educational centers by DANA to prevent mobility. Likewise, as reported by the Department of Education, Alqueríes has suspended classes in the afternoon, while in Benassal school transportation has been suspended, but at the CEIP Alcalde Fabregat i l’IES Pere Enric Barreda, minimum services are maintained to accommodate to students who have no other alternative.
In Benadressa there are difficulties to access, but it is open; and at the El Sambori Nursery School in Onda they have been left without electricity.
On the other hand, there are municipalities that have not suspended classes, but are having difficulties in accessing schools or in the movement of teachers and students. In this case, the territorial management insists that the priority is to guarantee maximum security for all people. There are bus routes that have had problems and have not been able to reach their destinations. For example, the school transport that goes from Les Useres to Atzeneta del Maestrat.
Likewise, the Castelló City Council has decided to close all municipal facilities that are outdoors. The council recommends avoiding any movement that is not extraordinarily urgent, and points out that, at this time, the city does not have any imminent danger. “We ask the population for calm. According to the technical criteria of the Local Police and Firefighters of Castellón, there is no immediate imminent danger for the population,” he insists in a statement.
When the ES-Alert massive and direct alert system for the population in the event of emergencies and catastrophes reaches a mobile phone, a shrill and repetitive beep sounds, different from the one heard when receiving an SMS or a WhatsApp, which remains on the screen until the user clicks on the ‘accept’ option that appears.
