The possible celebration of the 2031 Ryder Cup in Camiral, a golf resort located in Caldes de Malavella, is experiencing decisive weeks. “It is not a matter of days, but before the month of January we have to have all the information on the table to make a decision,” admitted this Monday Berni Álvarez, Minister of Sports of the Generalitat, within the framework of the presentation of Playspain.golf, an initiative to promote golf in Spain with sustainability as the common thread.
As this newspaper already published, the agreement is total and all that remains is to sign the contract, a step that requires approval by the Generalitat of the corresponding budget to take place. “When we landed we found the options for Catalonia to host the Ryder Cup and we are in the phase of gathering all the information. We want to sit at the table and participate in the decision, until now we did not participate. The Ryder Cup is a viable option, but many things still need to be worked on,” Álvarez expanded.

In this sense, the minister will travel to Madrid on Thursday to meet with Pilar Alegría, Minister of Education, in a meeting that could be key to giving the project the definitive boost.
Ramón Nogué, president of the Catalan Federation and present at the event, also addressed the subject of the Ryder Cup. “Before we were on stone roads and now we are on the highway, so we are doing well,” he predicted. But, at the same time, he sent a very clear message: “We have to learn from the Copa del América and not say things that are not true. “Whatever is said must be true and the Ryder is a very important event for Catalonia.”
