He Flamenco Ballet of Andalusiawho directs Patricia Guerrerowill open with her show ‘Mariana Pineda’ next February the programming of the Matadero Dance Center, located in Nave 11 of Matadero Madrid and which is directed by Maria Pages. It is, says the Sevillian dancer and choreographer, a “hospitable, innovative and transversal” programming.
A hundred performances (of sixty-six shows, six of them absolute premieres and eight co-productions) throughout 2025 make up the offer of this space, with flamenco as the main protagonist, although the various categories of dance will have a place. “We are an international dance theater, we embrace diversity, we encourage plurality, we promote alliances between artists and between them and institutions, we promote training centers, we encourage emerging talent and we support established artists,” said María Pagés, who is accompanied by in front of the space the poet -and partner of the artist- El Arbi El Harti.
The exhibition of shows is the ram of a project that has six other axes, as explained by those responsible at the presentation event, which was attended by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida. The six axes (aside from the show programming) are: artistic and technical residencies, co-production of national and international shows, cooperation, collaboration and artistic exchange with related national and international theaters, companies and choreographic centers; training in the arts of dance (performance, choreography, stage direction, lighting); reflection, awareness and transmission of knowledge about dance and entertainment space.
In the first months of programming, from February to June, figures and companies such as It Dansa (Catherine Allard), Théâtre National de la Dance – Chaillot (Rachid Ouramdane), David Coria, Kukai Dantza (Jon Maya and Jesús Rubio Gamo), Dani Abreu, Kafig Company (Mourad Merzouki), Ana Morales and Andrés Marín, Rafael Ramírez, Aracala Danza (Enrique Cabrera), Elías Aguirre, Roser López Espinosa, Jone San Martín, Mal Pelo (María Muñoz), Martha Graham Dance Company, Eva Yerbabuenathe National Dance Company, Lucia Lacarra and Farruquito.
