These demonstrations are a reaction to the company’s decision to increase salaries by 5.1%. In addition, the union was in negotiations to obtain an additional day of annual leave and performance-based bonuses in a transparent manner. And originally they were looking for something more than that percentage, which is to lighten the importance of workers.
On Wednesday, May 29, the union accused the company of not having presented a concrete compromise plan in the negotiations. Talks between Samsung and union representatives began in January 2024, but broke down on February 20, when the company decided to unilaterally implement the wage increase, which was not originally in the deal that was agreed upon.
Since then, the union has held several protests to demand a higher wage increase, in line with the national average of 6.5%. In fact, the union, which has about 28,000 employees, announced that they will stop working for one day, June 7, as part of the protest in question. That means that they must reach an agreement between the two parties soon, before things escalate a little more with Samsung.

Author’s note: Salary is always a problem between worker and employer, but it is important that fair wages are paid, after all, many perform necessary functions within the company.
