After eight intense days of the festival and more than 200 films screened, the director of the Valladolid International Film Week (Seminci) announced this Saturday the winners of the 69th edition, from which it emerged as a great winner the movie ‘Mercy. Alain Guiraudie’s film has been recognized with the Golden Spike, the highest award at the Valladolid festival, and also with the ‘Miguel Delibes’ Award for best script. Meanwhile, the Silver Spike has gone ‘ex aequo’ to the production ‘Stranger eyes’, by Yeo Siew Hua, and to the Spanish film ‘Polvo estar’, by Carlos Marques-Marcet, a work that opened the festival last Friday.
It was around 1:00 p.m. when the most desired awards of the festival were revealed, which had the support, in the form of generous applause, of those present in the Hall of Mirrors of the Calderón Theater, where it traditionally takes place. the reading of the record. The jury’s decision, made up on this occasion by the actress Aida Folch and the directors Luis López Carrasco and Sofia Exarchou, among the members, has recognized the brilliant performance of Laura Weissmahr, in ‘Salve María’, with the Best Actress Award , while the Best Actor Award goes to Jan Gunnar Roise and Thorbjorn Harr for their respective roles in ‘Sex’. Likewise, the jury wanted to give a special mention to the performers Ángela Molina and Alfredo Castro, protagonists of ‘Polvo estar’.
In addition, the Ribera del Duero Award for Best Director went to ‘Black Dog’, by Guan Hu, while the Pilar Miró for best new Spanish director went to Elena Manrique for ‘Fin de Fiesta’. Present in the room, the director thanked the festival for its “strong commitment” to her work because “despite the fact that satire is in the DNA of this country, there are people who don’t seem to realize it. In his brief intervention, he also highlighted the support of Spanish Television and Movistar+ »because if it weren’t for them, we would be watching movies about brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law all the time.
Although some of the winners have received their awards during the reading of the winners, the main awards will be presented late this afternoon in a gala hosted by Elena Sánchez and Miss Beige that will be broadcast live starting at 8:00 p.m. on La 2 of Spanish Television. Even so, both the winning actress Laura Weissmahr and the director Alain Guiraudie, Golden Spike, have been able to learn about their respective recognitions live with the support of a packed room.
Among the recognitions, the ‘double’ achieved by the film ‘Holy Cow’, by Louise Courvoisier, also stands out, with the Meeting Point award and also the audience award in this parallel section. Regarding the Official International Section, the ‘Jose Salcedo’ Award for Best Editing also stands out, awarded to Telmo Churro and Pedro Filipe Marques, for ‘Grand Tour’, by Miguel Gomes. Likewise, Best Cinematography went to Gao Weizhe, for ‘Black Dog’.
The event, in which León Benavente and Jorge Arribas, from the Fetén Fetén Duo, will perform, will also serve to posthumously honor the director Patricia Ferreira, to whom the Valladolid festival has awarded a Spike of Honor.
It will add to the recognition collected in this edition by Mohammad Rasoulof, who received this Wednesday his corresponding award granted six years ago, and by Fernando Méndez-Leite, director of the Film Academy, who did the same at the opening gala on October 18, where he remembered with emotional words his connection with the city.
