Chimezie Metu, injured with a Break of the Achilles tendon that will have almost a year of leave, will not play again this season with Barça and perhaps never again, since it ends contract in June. But the Angelino, in a felt and grateful letter to the club and his hobby, hopes that “the end” of his Blaugrana stage has not yet arrived.
The 28-year-old Pivot has been “a week difficult to process this injury and the way ahead”, a time in which he has reflected on the “grateful” that is “both to the club and the city of Barcelona for all love and support during the last 7 months.”
My expectations were surpassed in every way from the moment I was landed in Barcelona “
At times, Metu seems to talk about a short journey that is over, “an honor to wear the Barça this year”, but in several passages he suggests his desire to return to Palau so as not to spend “too much separate time” of a fan, especially “Meritxell and Dracs”, which “has returned the joy” doing what he wants most: play basketball.
Metu will treat his long injury in Los Angeles, in his habitual residence, a few months where it will be from the distance “the greatest support of this team during the rest of the season.” “Visca Barça!” Concludes the letter published on social networks by Barça on behalf of the player.
This is the full text of Metu:
It has been a difficult week trying to process this injury and the way ahead, but all I can do is thank God for the power to overcome myself! I hope I could express in words how I am grateful to both the club and the city of Barcelona for all love and support during the last 7 months. My expectations were surpassed in every way from the moment I was landed in Barcelona.
It has been an honor to wear the Barça this year. No one can be sure what the future will hold, but something I know is that this club will occupy a special position in my heart forever. Barça has returned me the joy of doing what I want most, allowed me to be myself and I can’t thank enough. To all the Culers, Meritxell, and Dracs, I will miss the roar in the Palau every game and listen to you to sing during the game, I hope we are not too separate time.
Metu, in his last game with Barça against Bayern.
Thank you very much! To all my teammates, coaches, physiotherapists, and all the staff, thanks for making this first year so special to me. We have won, we have laughed, we have cried, we have discussed, we have shouted, we have eaten, we have celebrated together and these moments will be with me forever. We have shared a special link in recent months and, although this chapter has ended sharply, I know that this cannot be the end of our history.
I am eternally grateful that our paths have crossed and we hope they repeat it again. Until then, I will be the greatest support of this team for the rest of the season! Visca the boat!
