The president of the Regional Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola, maintains her agenda for next Friday and will go to La Moncloa to meet with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, as part of the round of bilateral meetings with the top officials of the regional Executives.
In this way, Guardiola distances himself from the refusal of his Madrid counterpart, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who will not attend the meeting that was also scheduled for the 25th.
It will be the first meeting between Sánchez and Guardiola, 16 months after she took office, which she has criticized on several occasions. However, last July they coincided in the act of laying the first stone of the electric battery gigafactory that is intended to be built in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres).
Therefore, the Extremaduran president has been accumulating demands for the central government and is not willing to lose the opportunity to demand an improvement in infrastructure, investments and regional financing.
Specifically, as the Board has advanced, Guardiola will plan to meet the deadlines for the high-speed train between Extremadura and Madrid, although for this the route of the route in Castilla-La Mancha must be resolved. It will also request investment in highways, such as the Cáceres-Badajoz one, and that the Almaraz nuclear power plant (Cáceres) be maintained, which is scheduled to close in 2028.
The Extremaduran president will also convey to Pedro Sánchez that the new regional financing system must be based on financial sufficiency and territorial solidarity, taking into account variables such as the aging of the population and geographical dispersion, which represents a high cost in the provision of basic public services such as education, health or dependency.
Guardiola will also inform the President of the Government that, according to the calculations of his Executive, the so-called historical debt of the State with Extremadura exceeds 10,533 million euros.
