This Monday it was inaugurated the expansion of the bridge over the Tejas stream, in the Penías neighborhood of San Felices de Buelna, what has meant an investment of more than 144,000 euros and which will avoid “a critical point” of overflows and channel exits, especially in periods of intense rain. The city council had been demanding this “important work that today is a reality” for five years, stated the head of Promotion, Roberto Mediawho highlighted that these works put an end to the problems that his neighbors were experiencing due to the flooding of the stream, thanks to the increase in its hydraulic capacity and the work to expand its bridge, since the previous one “acted as a plug” in times of high flow.
The performance has been completed with the construction of breakwater walls “to give greater protection to this entire environment” and has meant an urban reorganization of the environment and the creation of a new recreational area for the residents of this neighborhood. A project that, according to Media, is an example of the “municipalist” character of the Government, which “will be endorsed with the approval of the 2025 Budgets, responding to the needs of the municipalities throughout Cantabria.”
In this sense, he has highlighted that the collaboration of his Ministry with the town councils “will continue to be total”, and proof of this is the increase in the Budget for 2025 of the amount allocated to the Department of Roads and Works, which will go from the current 9 million to 15 million euros for the next year, increasing by 60%.
Media has been accompanied by the mayor of San Felices de Buelna, José Antonio Cobo, who has shown his satisfaction at finishing, with the execution of this work, with a “historical vindication and a black spot of overflows” that affected businesses and neighbors. Both Media and Cobo have agreed to thank the neighbors for their collaboration so that this work has been carried out “in optimal conditions”, especially thanks to the solidarity of a neighbor, Beni García, owner of some land adjacent to the bridge through which access has been allowed. all the heavy machinery necessary for the execution of this work.
Furthermore, the counselor has advanced that will continue working “side by side” with this city council during the remainder of the legislature to continue inaugurating more works there. Specifically, he has referred to a “region and Cantabria” project as the future variant that will connect the regional highway that comes from Puente Viesgo with the area of the Los Corrales de Buelna industrial estate and the highway link, and which will allow the heavy vehicles that circulate through this environment daily to be “removed from the urban center” of Los Corrales. The counselor explained that “shortly” the informative study of this action will be awarded with the aim that the work can begin throughout this legislature.
