Bloomberg: Kyiv’s allies in the EU have lowered their expectations from a possible counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The European Union does not believe in a successful counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in 2023. This is reported Bloomberg with reference to EU officials.
Some European allies of Ukraine doubted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be able to make significant progress in the course of the counteroffensive. The EU believes that the Ukrainian military will be able to advance no further than 30 kilometers, since Russia “managed to take up defensive positions before the impending offensive.”
European officials believe that such a small advance would put Ukraine’s most capable artillery within range of Russian supply lines and set the stage for a larger offensive in 2024.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Ukraine could launch a counteroffensive in the coming weeks. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov predicted its failure, expressing confidence in the ability of the Russian army to “defeat the enemy.”
